This winter, my family and I traveled to Taiwan for vacation. We visited the YuYuPas Tsou Cultural Tribe Park, located in Chiayi County, a small cultural park showcasing Tsou culture. We walked around the park, seeing traditional Tsou architecture as well as the vast Oolong tea gardens. We also watched a traditional Tsou performance, which included multiple traditional Tsou songs and dances, and purchased their own branded wasabi salt and Alishan coffee. Seeing their culture firsthand and learning that there are less than 500 people left in their tribe was a reminder of how important it is to preserve endangered languages and cultures like this one.
